🔴 The 10,000 Shot Rule
Many photographers I look up to are in their 70s and 80s.
Michael Kenna, Andreas Gursky, Paul Caponigro…
They’ve taken thousands of images, but they’re known for only 4 or 5.
Let’s call it The 10,000 Shot Rule.
If you took 10,000 pictures and needed only five to be wonderful, every shot feels like a win-win. Either you get it, or you’re one shot closer.
You don’t need to be a photographer to use the 10,000 shot rule.
Every day of your life is a chance to make something wonderful. A day you don’t isn’t a failure — you’re just one day closer.
The thing I love about “making something wonderful” is that you’re adding to your body of work every day.
The 4 or 5 things you do that are truly wonderful simply introduce you to the world.
I know I’ve been writing about photography a lot in the newsletter recently, but I think I’ve found a path to make something wonderful in my life.
The one-two punch of creating photos and then selling them on livestream has been a joy for me and I hope to spread that joy to everyone who watches the live streams.
My museum-quality prints tend to sell for around $20 plus shipping so for about $30 you’re going home with nice art and supporting me (who you’ve presumably spent most weeks reading my newsletters :)
If you’ve never bought anything on the Whatnot app, click here for $15 off your first purchase.
I stream every Tuesday, including this Tuesday, January 7th at 8 pm ET.
I hope you’ll come by!
