Give ChatGPT Access To Today's News Then Write A Blog In 60 Seconds
This Chrome Extension gives chatGPT access to today's information.
I just discovered this chrome extension by An Qu that gives chatGPT access to the internet, and with a few tweaks of the default setting, we can write a blog with recent information in under 60 seconds.
Let’s go over the basics so you understand how it works, then get into the advanced things later in this post.
It’ll be useful to put this blog on the left side of your screen, and chatGPT on the right side, so you can follow along without going back and forth between windows.
How The Extension Works
When you give chatGPT a prompt, it will use the privacy-focused search engine DuckDuckGo. Once it gets a few results, it pastes the top 3 results and passes them to chatGPT.
It also uses a default set of instructions that chatGPT follows when it gives you the answer.
Once you download the Chrome extension linked above, you’ll get a few new options under the search bar.
How To Use WebChatGPT
First, download the Chrome Extension here.
Whatever you write in the prompt goes directly to the search engine. So, unlike the usual conversational tone you’re used to using in chatGPT, you’ll need to enter your prompt as if it’s a Google search.
I’ve found that typing ‘How to [XYZ]’ works well. Replace [XYZ] with what you want to learn. For example, ‘How to use TikTok to grow an audience around candles in 2023’ or ‘How to write a blog about shipping in 2023’.
Here’s a visual example of what webchatGPT gives you when you ask ‘How to use TikTok to grow an audience around candles in 2023’.
So, what's the big deal if you’re simply entering a Google Search into chatGPT?
Well, the tool lets you customize a few things, including how to instruct chatGPT to use the information, and that’s where the magic happens.
In the bottom left, click the arrow button and click [New prompt]. In the new window, click the NEW button to create a new prompt.
Then, copy the text below and paste it into your new prompt. I called this prompt summarize.
Web search results:
{web_results}
Current date: {current_date}
Instructions: You are the foremost expert in the topic above. Please write a five paragraph summary of the text above, along with any additional information someone would need to make interesting conversation about the above.
Query: {query}
The results from this prompt are much more useful as it allows chatGPT to use its existing knowledge to expand on the search results.
In the answer below, I asked ‘how to grow a business around business consulting in 2023.’
From there, I turned web search OFF.
Then I asked it to create a list of actionable steps.
How To Write A Blog In Under 60 Seconds
Now let’s make things really interesting. Let’s write a blog post in under 60 seconds.
I created a new custom prompt called Blog Post with the following instructions.
Web search results:
{web_results}
Current date: {current_date}
Instructions: You are the foremost expert in the topic above. Please write an interesting and engaging seven-paragraph blog post on the text above, targeted towards individuals who are curious to make the most of their lives by implementing a business from the above text. You are not limited to the text above. Use your current knowledge to give additional information to our target audience as you see fit. Cite your sources as you use them in [[number](URL)] format.
Query: {query}
Then, I asked, ‘How to grow a freelance remote work company in 2023’, and it gave the following blog post.
I noticed that it didn’t cite its sources as we requested. In previous prompts, it did cite sources.
Won’t This Lead To A Bunch Of Garbage Content On The Internet?
I’m not here to debate the ethics of doing this 50 times around various topics you’d like to build a blog around. Lots of people will do this.
But just because we can do this, doesn’t mean people will care. Pencils exist. Anyone can pick up a pencil and become an incredible artist. Everyone has a friend or family member whose art deserves more recognition. Or an entrepreneur friend that has great ideas but lives in the shadows. Getting people to care, and then getting them to buy something takes skill and perseverance.
Final Tips For Power Users
The other three settings you can change are the number of results, time preference, and region of your search.
If you need a lot of information in your search, try changing the number of results to five or more.
If you’re looking for information on the web from the last week, change the ‘Any Time’ setting to Past Week, and you’ll only get results from last week to today.
If you’re looking for information only in a specific location, change your region to that country, and the web information passed to chatGPT will only come from that region.
Don’t forget there’s a comment section, would love to hear your thoughts on today’s info.
As of this moment, next week’s newsletter will be about a node-based AI-generated art program called ComfyUI. For unfamiliar people, node-based programs allow for an extremely customized workflow and more automation when creating AI images. It really is a revolutionary concept. These free open-source programs are hitting the market right now and they’re improving rapidly.
I’m also visiting my family back home in Michigan in the middle of the week. For those not involved in my personal life (I don’t blame you lol), I just moved to NYC last month to work at ONE37pm, a subsidiary company of VaynerX, founded by Gary Vaynerchuk. The city is a completely different pace from the farm town I grew up in, so it’ll be nice to get back home and spend some time with the fam.
The length is perfectly fine imo
All of the above fam.
