I recently heard a quote that articulates how I’ve felt for years:
“The world is a very malleable place. If you know what you want, and you go for it with maximum energy and drive and passion, the world will often reconfigure itself around you much more quickly and easily than you would think.” - Marc Andreesen
In 2017, I wrote down the most ridiculous goal I could think of: work for GaryVee.
I didn’t want a fancy job title. I wanted to learn how social media really works—from the person who mastered it.
I didn’t know anyone big on social media. No connections, no roadmap—just a hunch that something would click if I was hard-working and strategic.
So in 2018, I got a job where I could post on social media all day—and learn while doing it.
I often worked 10-12 hours a day, then took my camera outside snapping pictures and edited them in Photoshop.
I was extremely intentional about practicing the skills needed to get to where I wanted to be.
I had no idea how quickly things would fall into place.
After five years, I finally made it.
I got a remote job at ONE37pm, a GaryVee company.
After a year of remote work, I had advanced as far as I felt I could. I was stuck.
So, I moved to New York City to work in person.
Soon after the NYC move, I joined the VeeFriends team - an entertainment company Gary started to make soft skills cool.
I was making content for VeeFriends Instagram for about two years when I hit a similar wall.
Two months ago, I saw an opportunity to join the VeeFriends livestreaming team—and get in early on the live commerce wave in the U.S., with one of the best teams in the game.
I thought this goal of mine was going to take decades… But like the quote says, “the world will often reconfigure itself around you much more quickly and easily than you would think.”
And now that I’ve achieved the goal, I’m left wondering what’s next 🤔
Let this be the sign for YOU - Have a goal. Be strategic to skill build. Work really hard. Give yourself time to cook.
Let's go! Congrats Ezra! This was a great read
