I used to read a lot of fiction as a kid. In fact, I’d get in trouble for reading too much in elementary school.
As an adult, I gravitate more towards nonfiction and self-development, personal finance, and a little history here and there.
I think that buying a book is the best bang for your buck in getting timeless non-fiction information.
Think about the incentives for the author.
They fill the book to the brim with their most valuable insights because they don’t want to waste the reader’s time or affect their legacy by writing a bad book.
Then they sell the book for $10-20 because that’s just how much the market has decided books are worth.
You’re getting the author’s very best knowledge for $10-20.
As a reader, I’d rather use that money wisely to own and re-read a few incredible books versus reading many books for minimal gain.
To set the stage and give everybody a takeaway from the first part of this newsletter, I wrote the following section on the person who inspired me to share this list.
Three Treasures To Leave Behind
Jim Rohn pioneered self-development during the 1960s and 1970s.
He was the Tony Robbins before Tony Robbins.
In fact, he personally mentored Tony Robbins.
If you’re looking for a motivating perspective, he’s your guy.
If you’re looking for examples of a great speaker, he’s your guy.
If you’re looking to improve your life, he’s your guy.
The speech linked below is one of my favorites.
During his talk, Rohn drops the hardest list of all time:
The 3 treasures to leave behind for the next generation.
Your pictures.
Your journal.
Your library.
You and I are living through an important time in history. We’re the first generation to have documentation of our existence at our fingertips at all times.
We can cement our legacy for future generations with ease.
Take your phone out.
Record your thoughts.
'Take pictures.
Share your experience.
Sharing My Library
Jim Rohn says that sharing your library is a treasure.
So, I’m going to share every single book I know of that’s worth its weight in gold.
This is a paid newsletter.
I almost didn’t put a paywall on this newsletter.
However, I’m confident that the information you gain by unlocking this list is far more valuable than the $15 you’ll pay.
These non-fiction books are timeless, which means you’ll carry the information with you for life.
11 of the 12 books are included in Spotify Premium, which means you can listen to them right now for no additional cost.
The following list is every book I love, presented in a rough order of how much I recommend them to the type of person who reads this newsletter.
The top 5 are in a league of their own.
