Set Aside Time To Sit Under The Stars 💫
There’s something special about going out in nature without worrying about any phone notifications.
I just got back from a road trip to a dark park in Pennsylvania. Dark parks are plots of land with minimal light pollution, allowing you to see so many stars, you start to question what life is all about. Many of us don’t have the luxury to see the night sky like this, due to civilization constructing cities with bright street lights that affect your ability to see all the stars.
Without light pollution, the average night sky has 6 shooting stars per hour, yet many people live their lives without seeing a single one.
I was laying down in a cold, wet field and I didn’t hear a SINGLE noise. No bugs, no birds, no wind… It was so quiet that my ears started to ring. I’ve never experienced anything like it. Then add the spectacle of a sky PACKED with stars & the Milky Way galaxy looking like it was falling towards us… It was a truly once in a lifetime experience.
But when you go back 200 years to a time before electricity, the night sky was breathtaking every single night.
It’s no wonder that so much ancient mythology is based on the stars. They had a constant reminder that we are just a small part of the universe.
I recommend everyone visits a dark park to see the sky as it was for millions of years of human evolutions. I’d also recommend looking into the constellations and the reason they got their name. Ancient mythology was one of the ways humans passed on the lessons they wanted future generations to know.
I used to think these were just dumb stories rooted in fiction, but they’re actually based in the most tried and true lessons and experiences of our ancestors.
For most of human existence, we didn’t have electricity & the life of quick accessibility. Our ancestors had to scrape and claw for survival. Most of their time was spent just trying to get by.
Viewing the night sky as it was for millions of years while they figured out how to survive is the closest thing I can think of experiencing what their life was like, short of learning to surging and spending a week living off the land.
I highly recommend spending time stargazing in a remote area far from city lights. If you can make it to a real dark park, bring some friends or family and share in the experience of the universe in all its glory.
